"Rolling Off" Your Frequencies

So... you have a microphone on each front ensemble instrument?  Now you need to spend some time on the "board" so that you don't get unwanted ring and/or feedback when coming up with the ultimate "mix".  Each of these instruments will need to be "Rolled Off" (based on the frequency ranges listed below) when calibrating the microphones assigned to them.  You can knock off or "roll off" the frequencies much higher and much lower than that particular instrument  However, don't get carried away, or you will lose the overtones!

 

*Notice the frequency ranges of each instrument commonly used in the marching band front ensemble.
